GOPSweep was formed to make the South Carolina Republican Party a vehicle for the nomination and election of conservative citizens, often referred to as "America First" patriots. The entire purpose of a political party is to nominate candidates who claim to support, and commit to fight for, the ideals of the party. Once nominated, they must win a general election to public office to be in a position to craft and support legislation to implement policies consistent with those ideals.
Do you ever wonder why the South Carolina General Assembly, dominated by "Republicans" in both the House and Senate, is considered the most "liberal" legislature in any red state? How can that be when we have such a red electorate in South Carolina?
The answer is the "Open Primary". Citizens in South Carolina become "electors" when they register to vote, but they are never registered as "Republicans", or as "Democrats", or as any other political party certified in South Carolina. When any political party primary for public office is held in South Carolina, that primary is run by the government, generally the local county election commission. ANY registered voter living in the electoral district in which the primary is being held is permitted to vote simply by appearing at the primary and announcing a desire to cast a ballot in that primary. As a result, many leftists, Democrats and others, vote in the Republican primary to have influence over the selection of the Republican Party nominee. In many of these districts across South Carolina, the Republican nominee is very heavily favored to win the general election.
This has been the formula for success for establishment Republican politicians for years. Keeping the "Open Primary", to permit Democrats and others to vote for them in the Republican primary, is their key to power! Once nominated, these establishment Republicans crush the Democrat opposition by wide margins, because we "America First" patriots would never support the clearly leftist Democrat opponent. The obvious result is that establishment Republicans, working in conjunction with Democrat legislators, dominate our state with a uniparty. The "Open Primary" also often provides nominees for federal office over the strong conservative candidate we would prefer to place in the general election, (Think Senator Lindsey Graham).
The solution to this problem is to have "America First" patriots join together across South Carolina to dominate the Republican Party reorganization in 2023, mandated by state law. That reorganization process, now in full swing, is where you, YES YOU, have the chance to directly impact the fate of America First candidates and policies.
When you “reorganize” your precinct in March, you will elect a precinct president and a precinct executive committeeman to serve as a member of your county Republican Party’s executive committee. You will also elect up to a certain number of allotted delegates from your precinct to your county Republican Party’s county convention, to be held in April. At that county convention, you will vote to elect a County Chairman, Vice-Chairman, and State Executive Committeeman to serve on the South Carolina Republican Party (“SCGOP”) state executive committee. Most importantly, you will elect state delegates to represent your county at the SCGOP state convention to be held in May. It is critical that state delegates elected at your county’s Republican Party County Convention, to be held in April, are America First patriots who desire and will commit to voting for a new SCGOP Chairman, willing to direct the SCGOP in a bold new direction.
GOPSweep is committed to the following objectives:
1) Closing the South Carolina primaries, such that voters in South Carolina are registered by political party, and only registered Republicans are permitted to vote in a Republican primary;
2) Recruiting, supporting and nominating conservative Republican candidates in primaries, even against incumbent GOP office holders who have failed to support the GOP platform and agenda; and
3) Supporting the goals of the South Carolina Freedom Caucus and openly opposing the loyalty oath mandated by the Republican Caucus currently in power in the South Carolina House of Representatives.
The current SCGOP leadership has not done ANY of these things. Yes, current leaders pay “lip service” to closed primaries, but take no action to make it happen. The current chairman, who has now served six years in this paid position, is a cheerleader for anyone with an “R” after his or her name, but does nothing to advance the “America First” cause. Your help is needed to correct this problem!
